With the 2007 World Cup approaching,
the U.S. Women's National Team was
on a winning streak. Continuing our
successful collaboration, Nike asked
Odopod to create a special feature
on NikeSoccer.com to spotlight the
team’s story and connect with
the soccer-obsessed girls who look
up to Abby, Hope, Tarp and the rest
of the team. We took fans on “The
Bus” with the WNT, showing soccer
crazy girls that the Pro team’s
experience was a lot like their own.
An intimate view into the team’s
fierce competitive spirit, personalities,
and relationships, “The Bus”
is a rich interactive experience within
NikeSoccer.com that tells the players’
stories using videos, photos, and
text messages sent from the road.
In collaboration with Wieden &
Kennedy we created more than 30 videos
in three months, editing footage shot
by our own crew, W+K, and U.S. Soccer.
We even gave several of the players
tiny HD cameras, getting inside glimpses
of the women revealing their sacrifices,
pre-game rituals and road trip antics.
While the WNT’s amazing streak
ended when they placed third at the
world cup, the team graciously participated
in the making of a final video, “Coming
Home”, which gives an honest
look at the player’s disappointment
-- and their resilience.
